Ssangyong Rodius news

Britain's ugliest car....and the winner is....

The search to find the ugliest cars on Britain's roads is over.

According to votes logged by visitors, Ssangyong's Rodius unanimously gets the title of 'The Ugliest Of Them All'.

Nearly 30 percent of visitors registered their distinct antipathy towards the unusually shaped Korean MPV. The Rodius may be the biggest MPV on the market, but it has already earned comments like "If Martin Clunes were a car this is how it would look'*1 and 'Basically, it's a dogs dinner to look at'*2, from critics.

Fiat's radical Multipla (Mk 1 version) earnt second spot in the table despite winning a gaggle of top motoring gongs since its launch back in 2000.

Surprisingly, next down the pecking order was a car designed and built for the super-rich, the Mercedes Maybach. It seems the trappings of a £250,000 luxury limousine doesn't go down well with the masses according to the cardata poll.

Model Total
Ssangyong Rodius 29%
Fiat Multipla 19%
Mercedes Maybach 10%
PT Cruiser 8%
Ford Scorpio 8%
Suzuki Liana 6%
Rover 75 3%
Kia Rio 3%
Renault Megane 1%
Kia Sedona 1%

Chrysler's PT Cruiser, like, the Multipla, continues to be a car the public either love or hate. Its retro-American styling may appeal to some, but not to eight percent of people, leaving it in fourth place.

It may be the chosen vehicle for a "Star In A Reasonably Priced Car' but Suzuki's Liana simply doesn't cut it in the looks stakes according to the public. The Japanese model came sixth with 6 percent of the vote.

Other models that offended the eye included Ford's Scorpio (5th), Rover's executive runner, the 75 (7th place), Renaults 'bootiful' new Megane (9th) and two models from Kia - the Rio (8th) and Sedona (10th).

"Naturally, the results are very subjective. For example, everyone always notes the Multipla, but its design quirks continue to be a major appeal for many observers and buyers alike. One mans ugliness is another mans beauty!" commented Cardata spokesman, Andrew Sobell.

The results were based on more than 1,500 votes cast on the website.
